The Meaning of Bethlehem: Christmas, the Manger, and Holy Communion

Unidentified parish priest (Saint John Armenian Church)

On the seventh day of the Octave of Nativity, the preacher delivers a children's sermon and a concluding adult reflection. The children's sermon explains the Blessing of the Water, baptism, and the Nativity story: Jesus born in Bethlehem ("house of bread"), laid in a manger (an animal feeding trough), connecting the incarnation to Holy Communion—Christ born to feed and nourish us. The concluding message draws a parallel between the Holy Family's displacement and uncertainty and those currently displaced by wildfires in Los Angeles and by conditions in Armenia, praying that God's hope sustain them until restoration.
