Holy Thursday Homily: Washing of the Feet and Partaking of Christ

Father Garabed Telfayan

On Holy Thursday, the preacher reflects on the Last Supper, the washing of the feet, and the institution of Holy Communion. He explains how Christ, the creator of the universe, humbled himself to wash his disciples' feet, and how believers are called to partake of Christ not only through the sacrament of communion but also through the mind (hearing the Word) and the heart (love and compassion). He connects Christ's "unless" statements to the foundations of church sacraments and urges self-examination against betrayal.

God’s Loving Discipline and the Expulsion from Paradise

Unknown preacher

Using parenthood as an analogy, the preacher explains divine discipline as an expression of perfect love. Adam and Eve’s expulsion from Paradise was not an angry or arbitrary punishment, but God’s protection against their becoming immortal while trapped in a fallen condition. Christians should therefore receive consequences, correction, and hardship with humility, recognizing them as possible opportunities for repentance, growth, and theosis.
