Sunday of the Advent (Գալստյան Կիրակի) – Preparing for the Second Coming of Christ

Այս կիրակի, ինչպես ըսի, վերջին կիրակին է Մեծ Պահքին, մինչև որ հասնինք Ծաղկազարդը։ Եվ ինչպես արդեն նկատի ունեցա, շատ դժվար է հավատալ, որ արդեն կլինի այս ժամանակը։ Անհավատալի է ինձի համար։ Ժամանակը թռավ։ Չգիտեմ, եթե այդպես թվաց ձեզի համար, բայց հասնելով այս կիրակի՝ մենք այսօր կնշենք Գալստյան կիրակին մեր եկեղեցու ավանդության համաձայն։ Գալստյան կիրակի ինչի՞ն կհիշեցնե, որուն Գալուստը Հիսուսի Գալուստն է և իր Գալուստը, երբ որ եղավ առաջին Գալուստը իր մարդեղությամբ, որի մասին Ավետարանը մեզի կհայտնե, և նաև իր երկրորդ Գալուստը։ Երկրորդ Գալուստը՝ Գալուստը յուրաքանչյուրիս համար, եկեղեցվո համար, մարդկության համար, աշխարհի համար արդյյոք ամենակարևոր փաստն է, որ պետք է ընդունենք, որ ըստ Աստծո արդարության մենք կարգավորենք մեր կյանքները։

Ես որպես հովիվ կզարմանամ քանի անգամներ, քանի ատենների մեջ և ինչ բաների մեջ, ինչ վիճակների մեջ, երբ որ առիթ ունենում եմ ձևով մը ուզում եմ հսկել, հիշեցնել հավատացյալները երկրորդ գալստի փաստի մասին։ Բայց անգամներ կան, երբ որ կարծես թե առաջին անգամ է, որ ես տեղեկացնում եմ մեր ժողովուրդը, որ սենց բան կա մեր հավատքի մեջ։ Երկու շաբաթ առաջ, երբ որ մասնակցել եմ մի ձեռնարկին, որ կոչված էր Reclaimը, ես սեղանի շուրջ նստած էի տասը հոգու հետ, և այս մարդիկը շատ նվիրված են եկեղեցուն։ Իրենք մինչև Անապատը գացին մասնակցելու այս ձեռնարկին, որ ավելի խորանար իրենց հավատքին, և սկսած են ինձի հետ խոսել թաղման կարգի մասին՝ ինչու այսպես կընենք, ինչու այնպես կընենք։ Եվ ասի, որ մինչև դու կհասկանաք՝ ինչ կնշանակե, որ թաղման կարգի միջոցով մենք ոչ միայն հավատացյալը, բայց մենք ալ մեզ կպատրաստենք Հիսուսի երկրորդ գալստի համար, արդեն թաղման կարգը իմաստ չունի։ Ուրեմն, ասիկա կենտրոնական ուսուցմունքը, որով մենք կդասավորենք մեր ծիսական կյանքը։ Եվ ուրեմն ձևով մը քարոզեցի ժողովրդին։ Այս նորեն բաց բերաններով, ապշած ձևով կլսեն այս վարդապետության, իբր թե ես օդեն բռնած եմ և մեկ անգամ են կսարքեմ այս գաղափարը իրենց համար։ Այդպես զարմացած ընդունած են, որ Հիսուսը երբ պիտի գա։ Այսօր, վաղը, մեկ տարիեն հետո, մեկ դարեն հետո, հազար տարիեն հետո՝ Աստված գիտե։ Իրոք, բառացի ձևով Աստված գիտե, մենք չենք գիտեր։

Բայց Գալստյան կիրակի ինքը մեզի կհիշեցնե, որ մեր գործը այն է, որպես քրիստոնյաներ, մեկ բան կատարելու, ան է, որ պատրաստ լինենք։ Լա՛ այսօր, լա՛ վաղը, լա՛, երբ որ պիտի լինի։ Եվ ասիկա մեզի համար պատճառ չէ վախցնելու մեզ, պատճառ չէ մեզի մեջ մտահոգեցնելու, որովհետև մեզի համար այդ հույսով կապրենք, ոչ այդ վախով։ Այդ հույսով ապրում ենք մկրտությունից մինչև վերջը։ Մենք, որպես հավատացյալ ժողովուրդ և հավատարիմ մեր Տիրոջ և Փրկչիչ Հիսուսի Քրիստոսին, օրը, օրե մենք պետք է հույսով մնանք, որ Հիսուս երբ պիտի գա։ Եվ ուզում եմ ձեզի ոչ միայն վախցնել նորեն, մխիթարել այս փաստով, որ եթե մենք փնտրում ենք արդարություն այս կյանքում, եթե մենք փնտրում ենք ճշմարտություն, եթե մենք փնտրում ենք խաղաղություն և հաշտություն, այս ամեն ինչը լիարժեք կերպով կատարվելու է Հիսուսի իր գալուստով։ Ուրեմն, երբ որ կմտնենք Ավագ շաբաթ՝ այս մտայնությամբ, պետք է պատրաստ լինենք, պատրաստվենք։ Այ ինքը պահանջում է, որ մենք ըստ այդ փաստին ձևավորենք մեր հոգևորականությունը, որ մենք լիարժեք կերպով միասնաբար տոնակատարենք Հիսուսի իր հարության տոնին։

You know, I was talking to my kids not that long ago about anxiety. And I was trying to explain what is anxiety, you know? Is it being afraid? Is it something different than that? We all know what it means to be afraid, but anxiousness, well, it’s not a one-to-one, right? So I struggled, and it was this endeavor to explain. There’s a subtleness there that might be difficult for a child to grasp, but yet anxiety affects all of us. And I said, “Okay, let me put it like this. When you’re using your iPad, right, and the battery is at 100%, do you feel anxious? Do you feel afraid?” No. “Okay, what about when it’s at 50%? Do you start to get worried what’s gonna happen?” Maybe a little bit. What happens when it’s down to 10%? My gosh, I gotta find that cord. I gotta do something, right? I’ve got—what’s gonna happen? Something’s gonna happen. It’s gonna die. It’s gonna die, right? And we wait, and we wait, and we wait, and we wait, and we wait until the last minute. Unless you’re like my son and you don’t pay any attention at all, and it dies, and you just get mad at the world. But the point is that for most of us, you know, you are paying attention to that little bar at the top of your phone. And in the beginning, everything’s okay, but as time goes by, we start to be aware that we’re running out of time, right? We’ve gotta do something about it. Now, until we do something about it, that’s anxiety, okay? When we do something about it, this is a release. This is peace. This is not just a problem solved, but it’s a future that’s resolved for us.

And we can get this way in our spiritual life too. When everything is fine and we’ve got a bright future ahead of us, you know, then we have nothing to worry about. But it doesn’t stay that way forever, right? Things get harder, things get harder, things get harder. Our own mortality and the mortality of others becomes realer and realer. And then that’s what real anxiety is. That’s what true anxiety is in the heart of mankind. What do we do? What do we do when we run out of time and we wanna do something about it, you know? If only it was easy, as easy as, you know, finding a USB cable, plugging it into the wall, you know? But today’s message addresses that anxiety in our hearts. What do we do about it? Because at the end of the day, time is limited for all of us, and not only for each and every one of us, but for this very world.

If we take for truth and for granted the message of the gospel, which culminates in a promise, a hopeful promise, a loving promise, a merciful promise that Jesus Christ is meant to return the same body with the same spirit. And in doing so, he sets finally to right all of existence. Okay? This what we call in the context of our faith may be referred to as the Last Judgment. We refer to it as the Second Coming as well. However, this for us is meant to be a reassurance that if we’ve ever felt that there was no justice, if we ever felt like there was no righteousness, there was no harmony, no peace, if all of these things were inaccessible to us, it’s because that event has not yet happened and brought to ultimate fruition everything that Christ has promised for us. And he has given us this time for us to familiarize ourselves with his message, which is all about getting ready for that.

If we need something to plug into to alleviate our own anxiety or the general fear that we have around our own mortality, then what we plug into is the Holy Gospel, okay? That’s what brings us peace. That’s what recharges us. That’s what stabilizes us. That’s what resolves our future, okay? In a way that we can trust, in a way that is rock solid, in a way that is testified to by generations and generations that have come before us. And we don’t know when that day will come, you know? We don’t know when that day will come. But the point is that anxiety will continue to grow within us until we do something about it today, okay? Until we plug into our faith, until we plug into the church, until we plug into the Holy Gospel, we’re gonna be living our life like a counting clock, not knowing if we’re gonna be ready for when that moment arrives.

And this is very important for us to reinforce in our hearts as we enter in the Holy Week soon, because this is the attitude, this is the mindset, this is the faith that we’re meant to have when we give glory to God. We say, “Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.” When we say, “Christ is risen from the dead. Blessed is the resurrection of Christ.” All of this isn’t a story about what happened in the past. It’s a promise of what will happen in the future. So let’s reconnect with that promise today, because that’s what’s gonna bring true peace in our hearts, the glory of the all holy Trinity. In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
